self-play
Competing against yourself
Self-play is a machine learning technique where an AI system improves by playing against itself rather than human opponents or fixed programs.
The system generates its own training data through repeated games, learning from wins and losses against earlier versions of itself.
Self-play produced breakthroughs in game-playing AI: AlphaGo used self-play to master Go at superhuman levels.
