Al-Anon

Relatives' recovery group

Al-Anon is a support organization for people affected by someone else's drinking—typically family members and friends of alcoholics.

Modeled on Alcoholics Anonymous, it uses the same twelve-step framework but focuses on those living with the consequences of another person's addiction rather than the addicts themselves: My mother started going to Al-Anon when my father's drinking got worse.

The related Alateen serves teenage family members.
