peer support
Equals helping equals
Peer support is help and encouragement provided by people who share similar experiences or circumstances—fellow patients helping each other through treatment, recovering addicts mentoring newcomers, or students supporting classmates with similar challenges.
The value lies in shared understanding: The peer support group meets every Thursday.
A peer support specialist works formally in this capacity.
