AWG

Conductor diameter standard

AWG stands for American Wire Gauge, the standard system for measuring wire diameter in the United States.

Lower numbers indicate thicker wire: 10 AWG is heavier than 14 AWG.

Electricians and engineers use AWG to specify wire appropriate for particular current loads: This circuit requires 12 AWG copper wire.
