yard time
Prison exercise hour
Yard time is the scheduled period when prisoners are allowed outdoors in the prison yard for exercise, fresh air, and socializing.
It's a regulated privilege in correctional facilities, often limited to an hour or two daily: He got into a fight during yard time.
The term sometimes appears metaphorically for any brief outdoor break from confinement.
