gen pop
Main prison housing
Gen pop is short for general population, the main body of inmates in a prison as opposed to those in solitary confinement, protective custody, or special units: They moved him out of gen pop after the threats.
The term appears in crime dramas and prison contexts, sometimes used metaphorically for mainstream society: That reference is too obscure for gen pop.
