workingwomen

Women with jobs

Workingwomen is the plural of workingwoman—a woman who works for wages, especially outside the home.

The term emerged when female employment was exceptional enough to warrant a special word.

It now sounds dated, as most women work and the compound seems redundant: a charity for workingwomen and their families.

Working women (two words) is more common today.
