ladies who lunch
Wealthy daytime diners
Ladies who lunch are wealthy women with leisure time who gather for midday meals at upscale restaurants, often for social or charitable purposes.
The phrase carries mild derision, suggesting privilege and idleness: The charity board was staffed by ladies who lunch from the Upper East Side.
The term was popularized by a 1970 Stephen Sondheim song.
