A wintry mix is a weather event combining multiple forms of frozen or freezing precipitation—typically snow, sleet, freezing rain, or ice pellets falling together or in succession.
The term appears in forecasts when conditions hover near freezing, making it hard to predict which type will predominate: Roads are hazardous due to this morning's wintry mix.
