Hazardous conditions announcement
A weather alert is an official warning issued by meteorological services about hazardous conditions—storms, extreme temperatures, flooding, or other dangerous weather.
Alerts range in severity from watches (conditions are possible) to warnings (conditions are imminent or occurring): A weather alert popped up on my phone about the incoming tornado.
