wiener dog
Low-slung German breed
Wiener dog is an informal name for a dachshund, the short-legged, long-bodied breed of dog.
The name references the dog's resemblance to a wiener—a frankfurter or hot dog—though ironically the sausage itself was named after the dog breed.
My neighbor's wiener dog can barely climb the porch steps.
The term is affectionate and casual, used more often in speech than in formal contexts.
