web surfing
Clicking through websites
Web surfing is browsing the internet casually, moving from site to site by following links or searching for topics of interest.
The metaphor suggests riding waves of information: I spent the afternoon web surfing instead of working.
The term emerged in the early 1990s and now sounds slightly dated, as constant internet use has made the activity unremarkable.
