visual contact
Seeing the target
Visual contact is the state of being able to see something or someone directly.
In military and aviation contexts, it means having eyes on a target, aircraft, or landmark rather than relying on instruments or radar: The pilot reported visual contact with the runway.
More generally, it describes any situation where you can actually see what you're dealing with: We lost visual contact when the fog rolled in.
