vice grip
Adjustable locking clamp
A vice grip is a type of locking pliers with an adjustable jaw that clamps onto objects and stays locked until released by a lever.
The tool grips with enough force to hold parts in place for cutting, welding, or turning: I clamped a vice grip on the stripped bolt.
The name comes from the Vise-Grip brand but is used generically.
Figuratively, a vice grip describes any tight, unyielding hold: Fear had her in a vice grip.
