vibhuti
Hindu holy ash
Vibhuti is the sacred ash worn by Hindus, particularly devotees of Shiva, typically applied to the forehead in horizontal lines.
Made from burned cow dung or other sacred materials, it symbolizes purity, the impermanence of the body, and devotion.
The term also refers to divine glory or supernatural powers attained through spiritual practice: The guru was said to manifest vibhuti from thin air. (Capitalized Vibhuti is a given name.)
