urban village
Dense walkable enclave
Urban village describes a neighborhood within a city that retains the feel of a small, self-contained community—walkable streets, local shops, familiar faces.
The term also applies to planned developments designed to recreate this village-like atmosphere: The new urban village will have apartments above street-level retail.
In a different sense, urban villages are informal settlements where rural migrants cluster in rapidly growing cities, particularly in China and other developing countries.
