urban art
Spray-painted walls
Urban art encompasses visual art created in or inspired by city environments, particularly work displayed in public spaces.
The term covers graffiti, street art, murals, and related forms that emerged from urban culture.
Unlike gallery art, urban art often exists without official permission and engages directly with its surroundings: The neighborhood has become known for its urban art scene.
The term can elevate or legitimize what might otherwise be dismissed as vandalism.
