two-way switch

Dual-location light control

A two-way switch controls a light or circuit from two locations—one switch at each end of a hallway or staircase, for instance.

Flipping either switch changes the light's state regardless of the other switch's position.

The name refers to the switching arrangement, not the number of terminals.

Also called a three-way switch in American electrical terminology.
