transracial
Across racial boundaries
Transracial has two distinct meanings.
The older sense describes adoption across racial lines: transracial adoptees, a transracial family.
More recently and controversially, transracial describes someone who identifies as a race different from their birth classification—modeled on transgender but widely rejected as a false equivalence.
The adoption sense remains standard; the identity sense remains contentious.
