evacuation center

Disaster relief facility

An evacuation center is a designated facility where people gather for shelter during emergencies—natural disasters, fires, or other crises that force them from their homes.

Schools, community centers, and stadiums commonly serve this purpose: The gymnasium became an evacuation center after the hurricane.

Also called an emergency shelter or evacuation shelter.
