total depravity

Innate human wickedness

Total depravity is the first point of the five points of Calvinism.

The doctrine of total depravity asserts that as a result of the fall of man in the Garden of Eden, every person born into the world is enslaved to sin and is unable to choose to follow God or accept salvation.

Total depravity is closely related to original sin, which is the idea that all people inherit a sinful nature.
