prevenient grace
Enabling divine initiative
Prevenient grace is a theological concept, especially in Wesleyan and Arminian traditions, referring to the divine grace that precedes human decision and prepares the soul to receive salvation.
The term comes from a Latin word meaning "to come before." Unlike irresistible grace in Calvinist theology, prevenient grace enables but does not compel a person to respond to God.
Through prevenient grace, even those who haven't heard the gospel may be drawn toward truth.
