tin man

Hollow metallic person

A tin man is a worker who makes or repairs things from tin or other sheet metal—a tinsmith.

The term evokes old-fashioned craftsmanship: The tin man came to patch the roof.

In contemporary usage, tin man more often refers generically to any character or figure made of tin, particularly one resembling a human form. (Capitalized Tin Man is the character from The Wizard of Oz.)
