ticker-tape parades
Hero's welcome procession
A ticker-tape parade is a celebratory procession where crowds shower honorees with paper from buildings along the route.
The name comes from the narrow paper strips that emerged from stock-market ticker machines, originally thrown from Wall Street office windows.
Now any shredded paper serves the purpose.
New York City's Canyon of Heroes has hosted ticker-tape parades for astronauts, sports champions, and visiting dignitaries: The team got a ticker-tape parade after winning the World Series.
