tick off

Annoy or check

Tick off has two distinct meanings depending on context.

To tick items off a list is to mark them as completed, checking them one by one: She ticked off the requirements as we discussed them.

But to tick someone off is to annoy or anger them: His constant interruptions really ticked me off.

The irritation sense is more common in American English.
