ticks off

Really gets to

Ticks off has two main meanings that share a sense of marking completion.

To tick off items is to check them off a list, noting each as done: She ticked off the requirements one by one.

The other meaning is to annoy or anger someone: It really ticks me off when people cut in line.

In British usage, to tick someone off is to reprimand them.
