dress down
Rebuke with force
Dress down has two distinct meanings.
To dress down is to wear casual clothes, especially in a setting that normally calls for formal attire: Fridays are dress-down days at the office.
To dress someone down is to reprimand them severely: The sergeant dressed down the recruits for their sloppy uniforms.
