thru-hiker

End-to-end trekker

A thru-hiker is someone who hikes an entire long-distance trail in a single continuous journey, typically over several months.

The term comes from hiking "through" from one terminus to the other: She became a thru-hiker when she completed the Appalachian Trail in five months.

The spelling reflects trail culture's informal conventions.
