hippotherapy
Therapeutic horseback treatment
Hippotherapy is a form of physical, occupational, or speech therapy that uses horseback riding as the treatment method.
The horse's movement provides sensory and motor input that therapists use to improve patients' posture, balance, coordination, and strength.
The term comes from the Greek word for horse, not from hippopotamus.
Her son receives hippotherapy twice a week for his cerebral palsy.
