the Last Supper
Christ's farewell dinner
The Last Supper is the final meal Jesus shared with his disciples before his crucifixion, as described in the Christian Gospels.
During it, Jesus instituted the Eucharist by blessing bread and wine as his body and blood.
The scene has been depicted countless times in Western art, most famously by Leonardo da Vinci.
References to a last supper often suggest a final gathering before an ending: The team dinner felt like a last supper before the layoffs.
