Schoolyard pole sport
Tetherball is a playground game in which two players strike a ball attached by a rope to the top of a pole, each trying to wind the rope completely around the pole in their direction.
The game requires no court or equipment beyond the pole and ball: We played tetherball at recess.
The word also names the ball itself.
