tetherballs

Pole-attached play balls

Tetherballs are balls attached by rope or cord to a fixed pole, used in a playground game where two players try to wind the rope completely around the pole by hitting the ball in opposite directions.

The word also refers to the game itself: We played tetherball at recess.

More commonly appears as the two-word *tether ball* or the singular *tetherball*.
