temporalis
Jaw-closing head muscle
The temporalis is one of the major muscles used in chewing, located on the side of the skull above and in front of the ear.
It fans out across the temporal bone and attaches to the lower jaw, pulling the jaw upward to close the mouth.
The temporalis was sore from clenching my teeth all night.
