takedown notice
Content removal request
A takedown notice is a formal request to remove content from a website or platform, typically citing copyright infringement or other legal violations.
The term comes from the U.S.
Digital Millennium Copyright Act, which established procedures for copyright holders to demand removal of infringing material: YouTube removed the video after receiving a takedown notice.
The process is sometimes abused to silence criticism or suppress unflattering content.
