ground loop
Unwanted current path
A ground loop is an unwanted electrical current that occurs when multiple devices share a common ground through different paths, creating a circuit that picks up interference.
In audio and video equipment, ground loops cause a distinctive low-frequency hum or buzzing: I finally traced that annoying hum to a ground loop between the amp and the mixer.
The fix usually involves breaking the loop by isolating grounds or using a ground lift adapter.
