swim strokes
Ways through water
Swim strokes are the coordinated movements of arms and legs used to propel a swimmer through water.
The four competitive strokes are freestyle (front crawl), backstroke, breaststroke, and butterfly.
Each has distinct arm patterns, kicks, and breathing techniques: She's working on her butterfly stroke.
Stroke can also refer to a single arm cycle: He won by half a stroke.
