Mark Spitz
Mark Spitz is an American swimmer who dominated the 1972 Munich Olympics, winning seven gold medals—each in world-record time.
His achievement stood as the record for most golds in a single Olympics until Michael Phelps surpassed it in 2008.
Spitz's dark mustache became iconic, defying the era's assumption that facial hair created drag.
