swandive

Arms-out pool entry

A swandive (also swan dive) is a type of dive performed with arms extended outward from the sides, legs straight and together, and back arched—a position resembling a swan in flight—before the arms sweep forward to enter the water hands-first.

The term extends to any dramatic headfirst plunge, especially a deliberate or reckless one: The stock price took a swandive after the earnings report.

As a verb, to swandive is to perform such a dive or to plummet dramatically.
