swamp fever
Mosquito-borne tropical illness
Swamp fever is an informal name for several diseases associated with marshy environments.
Most commonly it refers to leptospirosis in humans or equine infectious anemia in horses—both linked to stagnant water.
The term also appears as a colorful way to describe malaria or any mysterious illness blamed on swampy conditions: Half the regiment came down with swamp fever.
