swamis
Indian spiritual teachers
Swamis is the plural of swami, a Hindu religious teacher or spiritual master.
The title conveys respect for someone who has renounced worldly pursuits for spiritual practice: The ashram hosted several swamis from different traditions.
In casual Western usage, swami sometimes refers ironically to anyone claiming special insight or wisdom.
