superhero films
Costumed vigilante cinema
Superhero films are movies centered on characters with extraordinary powers or abilities who fight villains and protect the innocent.
The genre draws primarily from comic books—Superman, Batman, Spider-Man, the Marvel and DC universes—though original superheroes appear too.
Since the early 2000s, superhero films have dominated Hollywood box office, spawning interconnected "cinematic universes" with sequels, prequels, and crossovers: Another superhero film? I've lost track of which ones I've seen.
