character studies
Deep psychological profiles
Character studies are works—in fiction, film, theater, or other media—that focus primarily on exploring a person's psychology, personality, and inner life rather than plot or action.
The emphasis falls on who someone is rather than what happens to them: The film is less a thriller than a character study of a man unraveling.
In art classes, character studies are sketches or paintings examining a subject's distinctive features and expressions.
