sulphur spring
Smelly thermal pool
A sulphur spring is a natural spring whose water contains dissolved hydrogen sulphide or other sulphur compounds, giving it a distinctive rotten-egg smell.
Such springs often occur in volcanic or geothermal areas and have historically been valued for supposed medicinal properties: The town built a spa around its sulphur springs.
Also spelled sulfur spring.
