sukkahs

Temporary festival shelters

Sukkahs is the plural of sukkah, a temporary outdoor shelter built for the Jewish festival of Sukkot.

The structure has walls and a roof of branches or leaves that lets in starlight.

Observant Jews eat meals and sometimes sleep in the sukkah during the week-long harvest celebration: The synagogue courtyard filled with sukkahs each fall.
