sucrase

Sucrose-cleaving catalyst

Sucrase is an enzyme that breaks down sucrose (table sugar) into its component sugars, glucose and fructose.

It's produced in the small intestine and enables the body to absorb these simpler sugars.

People deficient in sucrase have difficulty digesting foods containing sucrose.
