subparagraphs

Divisions within sections

Subparagraphs are the subdivisions within a paragraph of a legal document, contract, or formal text.

When a paragraph needs further breakdown, subparagraphs provide the structure—typically labeled with letters or numbers: See section 4, paragraph (b), subparagraphs (i) through (iv).

The term appears most often in legal, regulatory, and bureaucratic contexts.
