cuffing

Fastening wrists together

Cuffing is the present participle of cuff, which has two distinct meanings.

One cuff is a band at the end of a sleeve or trouser leg; to cuff pants is to fold them.

The other cuff means to strike with an open hand: He cuffed the boy on the ear.

To cuff someone also means to put handcuffs on them.

In contemporary slang, cuffing season refers to autumn and winter months when single people seek short-term relationships to avoid being alone during cold weather: She's just cuffing—it won't last past spring.
