Stubs are short remnants left after the main part has been removed or used.
A ticket stub remains after the usher tears your ticket.
A pencil stub is what's left after heavy use.
A check stub stays in your checkbook as a record.
Tree stumps are sometimes called stubs.
To stub your toe is to strike it against something: I stubbed my toe on the coffee table.
To stub out a cigarette is to extinguish it by pressing.
In computing, a stub is placeholder code awaiting full implementation.
