snuffed
Killed the flame
Snuffed is the past tense of snuff, which has two distinct meanings.
To snuff a candle is to extinguish it, usually by pinching the wick or using a snuffer.
This spawned the slang meaning to kill: The hitman snuffed him before he could testify.
To snuff something out is to end it abruptly: The scandal snuffed out his political career.
Separately, to snuff is to inhale sharply through the nose, as with snuff tobacco.
