fair ball
Hit in play
In baseball, a fair ball is a batted ball that lands or is touched within the field of play, bounded by the foul lines extending from home plate through first and third base.
A ball that lands in fair territory can still become foul if it rolls or bounces past the base before being touched: The grounder started fair but curved foul before reaching first.
